Brittany Winner sells business credit and cash-flow financing. She came to Carla Cherry with the pitch her company hands everyone, built on terms like personal guarantees. Business owners did not know what those words meant, so she was losing them at the start of the conversation.

Two things changed. The pitch lost the jargon. Then the offer itself got reworked, so the back office does the software work for the client instead of handing the client the software and leaving them to sift through it.

The target market research she did on LinkedIn led to an introduction, then another, and ended with an invitation to a private summit in Scottsdale, Arizona, where she got to speak. She closed $85,000 in business that weekend. It initiated her promotion to EVP, and the change she suggested to the offer was rolled out company-wide.

The interview

Carla: Hello, this is Carla Cherry, and I am sitting here with Brittany Winner, executive vice president of J. Galt. Thank you so much for joining me. Brittany, how are you?

Brittany: Doing fantastic. How are you?

Carla: I'm fantastic. It's been a minute since you were in the program, and I wanted to talk about your big wins. You are one of my absolute star players, and I talk about you all the time. Two things we did together: we switched around your pitch, and we built out your customer journey. You, like many people, come from a company where they have things laid out and they say, this is how you do it. You came to me with your pitch and we flipped it, and I suggested there were a couple of things in the customer journey that could be better. Could you tell me about that, and what happened after we tweaked it?

Brittany: Absolutely. When I first came to you, the first thing that we worked on was the pitch. I was using terms like personal guarantees in my pitch, and your team and your advice kind of told me, hey, a lot of business owners don't know what that is. So once I tweaked that, I had a couple of heads turning, which obviously was good for sales.

Another thing that you taught me about was the target market research on LinkedIn. When I did that, I met a guy who introduced me to another person, who introduced me to another person. Ultimately it got me invited to a summit in Scottsdale, Arizona, with something called the power room. We had the opportunity to speak about what we do in front of them. And with all the tweaks to my speeches and whatnot that you had recommended, we actually closed $85,000 in business there. In one weekend. So that was a huge deal for me. That's when I got promoted to EVP, actually, so that also initiated a promotion for me.

And then, looking at the customer base that we had gone through on the offering, you had mentioned that maybe it's a lot better, instead of giving someone the software and having them sift through it themselves, maybe our back office does it for them. Allowing them to have time to run their business and do all the things that they're trying to do, instead of having to learn all about the finances and how they can increase their cash flow and all that jazz.

So I introduced you to one of the owners of the company, and I know that you had suggested it to her. That's kind of when, I believe it was August or September, we changed the whole program. So now we can offer a lifetime membership. We have a whole team of support. It benefits the business owner more, and it gives them time to focus on what they're doing. So I appreciate the advice, because it's making me more money.

Carla: You went up to EVP right after the program, closed an $85,000 or $86,000 weekend, and then something was introduced company-wide. That's a huge shout out, and I really appreciate you sharing it. You were absolutely our top rock star within the program, and this shows people what's possible if you get in the trenches. I love that you said it happened after the target market research, because you got in and you did the research and you had these conversations and it built. I tell everybody just go in and do it, because you're making bonds and you're seeding deals. You seeded something that got you invited to a table at a private event. And then you not only got invited, you got to speak. And then you closed an $86,000 weekend. Huge win. I'm so excited for you. You just keep going up and up, and it's an honor to know you.

Brittany: Thank you. And you should know this. The owner always says to me, the Brittany that was here a year ago is not the same Brittany that sits before me today. And I have you to thank for being a part of that. So thank you.

Carla: Thank you so much.
